The course is grounded in the SkillRise framework and walks educators through the process of developing a new vision for adult and workforce learning, all the way through sustainably implementing that new vision.
Course participants have used the class to develop a long-term distance learning strategy, build an online orientation, and implement 1:1 devices to support blended learning. We encourage participants to enroll alongside colleagues to work through the class collaboratively and develop a shared vision for technology integration. The ideal team includes an administrator or leader, a technology specialist, and one or more teachers or program staff who work directly with adult learners in basic education, workforce development, or a community college program.
The SkillRise course was co-authored by experts in adult learning and edtech. Read an overview from one of the course authors, Jeff Goumas, Digital Learning Lead at World Education, about how it was developed and how teams can take advantage of this free learning experience.
The following case studies feature three teams that completed the course, what they learned, and how the SkillRise experience guided their edtech implementation planning.
“Packed with useful, hands on, and other required and additional resources. Thoughtful activities, feedback, and discussions. Well paced. Well facilitated. GREAT, like STELLAR, communication and engagement.”
“I like talking to people from all over the country about approaches and experiences in distance learning. I'm used to hearing only from people in my own state. There's more to learn when the conversation is open to educators in other states.”
“The information provided in this course was extensive, relevant, and helpful! The content was fantastic!”
“The course met more than my expectations. There was a wealth of valuable information available and I loved the numerous resources, coaching support, and especially our team meetings.”
“This is a well-organized, comprehensive course that engages participants to think beyond just goal setting. Changing it to teams vs individuals was helpful in that the group could work cohesively from different perspectives to develop the goal. Our coach was super thoughtful with us and taking time to understand our unique situation. He commented when necessary without "telling us the answer", although sometimes we took what he said and literally copied it into our plan! (Sorry!)”
